1Gataddhino visokassa,

At journey’s end, rid of sorrow;

2vippamuttassa sabbadhi;

everywhere free,

3Sabbaganthappahīnassa,

all ties given up,

4pariḷāho na vijjati.

no fever is found in them.

5Uyyuñjanti satīmanto,

The mindful apply themselves;

6na nikete ramanti te;

they delight in no abode.

7Haṁsāva pallalaṁ hitvā,

Like a swan gone from the marsh,

8okamokaṁ jahanti te.

they leave home after home behind.

9Yesaṁ sannicayo natthi,

Those with nothing stored up,

10ye pariññātabhojanā;

who have understood their food,

11Suññato animitto ca,

whose domain is the liberation

12vimokkho yesaṁ gocaro;

of the signless and the empty:

13Ākāseva sakuntānaṁ,

their path is hard to trace,

14gati tesaṁ durannayā.

like birds in the sky.

15Yassāsavā parikkhīṇā,

One whose defilements have ended;

16āhāre ca anissito;

who’s not attached to food;

17Suññato animitto ca,

whose domain is the liberation

18vimokkho yassa gocaro;

of the signless and the empty:

19Ākāseva sakuntānaṁ,

their track is hard to trace,

20padaṁ tassa durannayaṁ.

like birds in the sky.

21Yassindriyāni samathaṅgatāni,

Whose faculties have become serene,

22Assā yathā sārathinā sudantā;

like horses tamed by a charioteer,

23Pahīnamānassa anāsavassa,

who has abandoned conceit and defilements;

24Devāpi tassa pihayanti tādino.

the unaffected one is envied by even the gods.

25Pathavisamo no virujjhati,

Undisturbed like the earth,

26Indakhilupamo tādi subbato;

true to their vows, steady as Indra’s pillar,

27Rahadova apetakaddamo,

like a lake clear of mud;

28Saṁsārā na bhavanti tādino.

such a one does not transmigrate.

29Santaṁ tassa manaṁ hoti,

Their mind is peaceful,

30santā vācā ca kamma ca;

peaceful are their speech and deeds.

31Sammadaññāvimuttassa,

Such a one is at peace,

32upasantassa tādino.

rightly freed through enlightenment.

33Assaddho akataññū ca,

Lacking faith, a house-breaker,

34sandhicchedo ca yo naro;

one who acknowledges nothing,

35Hatāvakāso vantāso,

purged of hope, they’ve wasted their chance:

36sa ve uttamaporiso.

that is indeed the supreme person!

37Gāme vā yadi vāraññe,

Whether in village or wilderness,

38Ninne vā yadi vā thale;

in a valley or the uplands,

39Yattha arahanto viharanti,

wherever the perfected ones live

40Taṁ bhūmirāmaṇeyyakaṁ.

is a delightful place.

41Ramaṇīyāni araññāni,

Delightful are the wildernesses

42yattha na ramatī jano;

where no people delight.

43Vītarāgā ramissanti,

Those free of greed will delight there,

44na te kāmagavesino.

not those who seek sensual pleasures.
