Nirvana

Nibbana · Nirvana · Doctrine

The ultimate goal of Buddhist practice — the extinguishing of the fires of greed, hatred, and delusion. It represents the end of suffering and the cycle of rebirth. Theravada Buddhism distinguishes between nibbana with remainder (the living arahant) and nibbana without remainder (at death). Mahayana traditions emphasize non-abiding nirvana.
