Sutta
Sutra
A discourse attributed to the Buddha or occasionally to a senior disciple. The word literally means 'thread' — a thread of teaching. In the Pali Canon, suttas are organized into five collections (nikayas). Mahayana sutras form a vast additional body of scripture.
